So last night, I finished reading "Xenos", book 1 of the Eisenhorn Trilogy by Dan Abnett. It chronicles the adventures of Gregor Eisenhorn, a Grand Inquisitor tasked with rooting out a heretical cult hell bent on claiming power through an alien book called the Necroteuch.
The book is set in the grim world of the Warhammer universe. Don't let that put you off though because this book is very well written and briskly paced. Once you acclimate to the settings, characters and various Warhammer lingo, you'll be hard-pressed to put the book down. Dan Abnett writes with a cinematic eye and if there's any downside to the book, it's that I wish he gives us a bit more character development. All in all, this book is highly recommended for the uninitiated reader looking to delve into the Warhammer universe. It's beautifully grim, ornate, extremely violent and compulsively readable. Pick it up and let me know what you think!
If you're so inclined, "Xenos", and its two other sequels, "Malleus" and "Hereticus" are all collected in the Eisenhorn Omnibus. It's pretty reasonably priced on Amazon so you won't have to buy all three separately!
